Taylor Ashton of Fish & Bird
Genre: Appalachian, Contemporary Folk
Taylor Ashton is a Canadian singer, songwriter, banjo player, and visual artist. He is inspired by folk ballads, David Lynch, science podcasts, and dreams; his 5-string banjo playing has a deep reverence for the old-time clawhammer tradition, while displaying an excitement for the instrument’s potential in rock & roll and a curiosity about its roots in Africa.
Travels with his alt-folk 5-piece band Fish & Bird have taken him across Canada, the UK, and the US, with countless appearances at major folk festivals, theaters, and clubs. He has released 4 albums of original music with that band since its formation in 2006, and has also released an album as a duo with bassist and composer Zoe Guigueno under the name Bull Kelp. Though already a prolific writer and performer, forays into performing solo under his own name are a new adventure.
