Over the course of 11 albums, Ottawa area singer songwriter Brock Zeman has built a reputation as a writer of great depth and passion, through his thoughtful, often personal songs. But he’s got a rough, rockin’ side as well. Joined on relentless tours across Western Canada and down to Texas and back by his ever-present collaborator, Blair Hogan, and often drummer Dylan Roberts, Zeman and crew can put on a powerful show that has attendees rocking as much as feeling the stories that he tells in song. He could easily be the bastard son of Lucinda Williams and Steve Earle, with a gravelly Tom Waits voice. Widely regarded as one of Canada’s most prolific songwriters and best-kept secrets, his 2015 release Pulling Your Sword Out of the Devil’s Back was a semifinalist in the International Songwriting Competition and came in second in the The Unsigned Only Competition in 2015.
Blair Michael Hogan is one of the busiest session musicians in the Ottawa area, and with good reason. Hogan has a great melodic sensibility to his guitar playing. He adds to a song in a way that can be both unobtrusive and in your face at the same time. Hogan has spent the better part of the last decade as touring guitarist for award winning singer/songwriter Brock Zeman (Busted Flat Records), as well as playing guitars, bass, mandolin and keys on many of his twelve albums. When he’s not on the road with Zeman, Hogan does session work in studios all over the city, and plays rock and roll with Ottawa favourites Silver Creek.
