TANGLECOVE is an acoustic duo made up of two multi-talented local Newfoundland musicians, Dave Panting and Dan Rubin. Between them, they sing original songs and traditional ballads and play mandolin, mandocello, mandobass, violin, viola, bouzouki, guitar, bass, keyboards, and percussion. Their music is effervescent, highly original and emotionally compelling.
Dave Panting is an accomplished folk artist. As well as performing with Figgy Duff, Panting is a longtime member of Rawlins Cross and The Panting Brothers Band, and is recognized as one of the leaders of the revival of Newfoundland folk music. Dave is also a composer and music producer. He appears regularly as a solo artist, as a member of the Forgotten Bouzouki and tours with the Irish Descendents. He is a regular instructor at the Vinland Music Camp in Gros Morne National Park.
Dan Rubin is also a songwriter and composer. Starting with a background in classical composition he moved into folk and world music. He has performed over the years with a series of musical groups, including the folk quartet Flying Mountain, the world music trio New Earth and the East Coast folk trio Atlantic Union. Since arriving in Newfoundland, he has been active as an artist manager and concert promoter, as well as a performer.
Tanglecove has just released a book and album of thirty original fiddle tunes. The new recording has been nominated for MusicNL awards in the categories of Instrumental, Celtic/Traditional and Folk/Roots.
