dan frechette & laurel thomsen

Canadian-American duo Dan Frechette and Laurel Thomsen share a musical chemistry and friendship that have set them apart, not to mention a brand of Roots-Folk that has made converts of many skeptics. Dan Frechette is a prolific songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Manitoba who has tour been touring most of Canada’s major folk festivals for the last twenty years and Laurel Thomsen is a Californian-born violinist, composer, and author known for her knack for crafting hooks.

Their album Between the Rain (2016) ranked in Canada’s top ten campus radio Roots charts and was praised for its “lyrically refreshing and musically diverse” original songwriting. Their 2022 album, After the Fire, is a testament to resilience with ten original songs that touch on themes of love, home, community, and personal strength, reflecting their journey from setback to hope—particularly the forest fire that claimed Dan’s studio days after the album was recorded.

The duo has toured extensively throughout North America, from house concerts to major festivals, and even across Europe. Their performances captivate audiences with the breadth of their style and virtuosity, combining Dan and Laurel’s diverse musical backgrounds and further inspiring each other to evolve musically.
